Last week, Taiwanese actor Jerry Yan made a special appearance at the celebration party of movie Black & White, Episode 1: Dawn of Assault, to show his support for his mentor, director Tsai Yueh-hsun.

Not only did he steal the limelight from lead actor Mark Chao, Jerry was always seen by the director's side, and had his arms around the latter's shoulders.

After two hours, Tsai, who could not hold his liquor, became drunk. Jerry then turned his attention to model Tang Guo Zhong, a friend whom he had known for 10 years. The two chatted through the night and left the party together when it ended.

When Jerry and Guo Zhong noticed that reporters were trailing their car, they asked a friend, who was on a motorcycle, to help make way for them.

However, the two actors later decided to stop their vehicle for a quick interview.

When asked if he was afraid that the rumour mill will spin about his close relationship with Tsai, Jerry explained that the director was merely concerned about his hand injury.

Last year, it was reported that Jerry had fractured his finger and might end up with a crooked finger, if he did not undergo surgery.

Jerry also indirectly admitted that ex-lover Lin Chi-ling had asked after his injury, when he replied, "Many friends showed their concern during the Lunar New Year."

One reporter then probed if his New Year resolution was to marry Chi-ling, to which Jerry jokingly said that he would have to talk about it to the reporter in private.

However, the actor complimented Chi-ling, saying, "I think she's a good girl. I also think that there are many people who like her."

Chinese blockbuster to film in Dubai

One of the biggest Chinese movies of the year is about to start shooting in Dubai, the cast and directors have at a press conference at The Palm Atlantis.

Action and fashion extravaganza ‘Dwelling In The Fuchun Mountains’ will film key scenes at Atlantis, The Palm and other Dubai landmarks, including The Burj Arab and the Burj Khalifa, with the support of the Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing.

The US$20M production will be filmed across six cities - Dubai, Hangzhou, Fuyang, Taipei, Tokyo and Milan - and is the first Chinese film to be predominantly produced outside China. Dubai's filmworks is assisting the Chinese team with practicalities like visas and location permissions, as well as accomodation for the 100+ strong Chinese crew, and will also be assisting to provide the bodies and equipment that will ultimately see a crew of around 300 on set, as well as helping to supply a host of equipment locally.

The cast features China’s leading stars including Andy Lau from Hong Kong, best known for House of Flying Daggers and The Warlords, who director Sun Jianjun describes as 'like Tom Cross and Michael Jackson rolled into one'. Tong Dawei and Zhang Jingchu from China, and Lin Chi-ling from Taiwan.

Jianjun added: "We have seen Mission Impossible IV, and sometimes people are tempted to exagerrate the bad things, but we can guarantee our film will show Dubai better than that. We only want to show Dubai in the best light - there'll be no sandstorms or exaggeration of reality. We want to show the real fantasy world that is Dubai in our film."

Music to the Department of Tourism's ears, no doubt, bearing in mind the film's projected 300M audience when the film is released in China later this year.

When her good friend, host Kevin Tsai was asked if he knew Chi-ling and her former lover Jerry had reconciled with each other, the host expressed that he had no idea.

Lin also stressed that she has no plans for marriage though she yearned for romance in her life.

"I haven't thought about getting married but I have thought about romance, I am certain I want love," said Lin.

The 36-year-old model-actress added that she is not interested in marrying into a wealthy family, and adored men who are humourous.

Last year, Chi-ling broke into Japanese showbiz after making her debut on television with Japanese heartthrob Takuya Kimura in Moon Lovers.

Sealing the deal yesterday, Chi-ling will set off for Tokyo in August to reprise her role as Xiao Qiao in the Japanese musical remake of The Red Cliff. She will be performing alongside Akira -- from Japanese boyband EXILE -- who will be playing Eastern Wu commander Zhou Yu.

The model admitted that she felt stressed out as musicals required one to think on the spot. At present, Chi-ling hopes to start her Japanese and stage-acting lessons soon. She only has 45 days before the opening night of the musical.

"Thanks for all your support. I really enjoy taking on different challenges. I hope I could turn my nervous energy into performing energy," Chi-ling said.

When asked if she will reenact the steamy sex scene she had with Hong Kong actor Tony Leong in the movie, Chi-ling's manager replied that they were unsure, as "musicals are very different from movies".

TAIPEI: Taiwan supermodel Lin Chiling has made her directorial debut with the documentary short film "Still In Time To Say I Love You", which wrapped recently, reported Taiwan media.

The film was made as part of the "6 Minutes Protect A Life" movement, which seeks to raise awareness among women in Hong Kong and Taiwan, about the importance of regular health screenings and early detection of diseases like breast and cervical cancer.

Lin, who has been the movement's spokesperson for the past eight years, volunteered to direct the documentary short film pro bono and had been working on it since November last year.

The film documents the experiences of four breast cancer and cervical cancer sufferers and was shot over the course of four months.

The 36-year-old model, who had previously starred in blockbuster films like the period epic "Red Cliff" and adventure film "The Treasure Hunter", was overjoyed to finally be able to get behind the camera for a change.

"This time, I finally get to film someone instead of being filmed. I don't have to appear in front of the camera so I don't need to put on makeup!" Lin told reporters.

Lin's production crew reportedly nicknamed her "The Gentlest Director in History" as she was always courteous to her crew members on the set and gave her orders in her trademark 'baby doll' voice.

TAIPEI: Taiwan supermodel Lin Chiling has denied that she will wed this year, despite her mother's claims that there would be wedding bells before the year is out, reported Taiwan media.

"Mum says it will be 'this year' every year. Give me some more time," said Lin during a charity luncheon with tennis legend Andre Agassi in Taipei.

"I am trying very hard to let love happen."

When asked if she would stop her mother from speaking further about her love life, Lin said she could not.

"I don't have the right. Her intentions are good but from now on, just ask me if there are any [queries]. Ask me, ask me," said Lin, who was swarmed by reporters after the event.

The 36-year-old also took the opportunity to sooth tensions between her ex-lover Jerry Yan's fans and her mother.

Lin's mother had previously criticised Yan for speaking fondly about Lin when he appeared on a Chinese variety show, chiding him for "getting in the way of other people's marriage".

Lin's mother had often expressed that she hoped Lin would marry Taiwan's 'Toilet Bowl Prince' Scott Qiu and appeared to feel Yan's actions would harm any chances of that happening.

Yan's fans were upset by her remarks, with some even vowing to boycott the brand of soy sauce which Lin's mother is a spokesperson for.

"I feel people often have good intentions when they speak. People probably shouldn't let some minor communication errors cause misunderstandings," said the "Red Cliff" actress.

Just who will she marry?

Perhaps due to the sensitive subject matter, Lin, who appeared warm and jovial throughout the event, teared up when she sat down to take further questions from the gathered press, though she soon regained her composure.

TAIWANESE model and actress Lin Chiling earned NT$160 million (S$7 million) this year, according to a report by website Chinataiwan. org.

But the 36-year-old star of movies like Red Cliff and The Treasure Hunter was coy when The New Paper asked her about it.

“I was only informed (about it) by the media. I actually don’t know about it,” she said sweetly in English. “(The amount) is probably not correct.”

Is it perhaps 80 per cent correct,weasked. Hmm,she paused. “I cannot give you the exact numbers now, but it’s not correct.”

She added cordially: “(What I earned) is a secret.”

The leggy beauty was in town last week for the opening of entertainment outlet OverTime at Dempsey Hill. The Malaysian chain has also opened another outlet at Holland Village. Lin’s reluctance to confirm the report on her earnings could have something to do with her tax case, which she said has not been resolved yet.

It was reported in October that she has been ordered by a court to pay NT$6.84 million to the Taiwan tax authorities.

The taxman had found out that she had paid less tax than she wassupposed to between 2003and 2005.

Lin’s mother reportedly said they will appeal against the judgment.

The media has reported that Lin is the top-earning model in Taiwan.

A distant second is fellow model-actress Sonia Sui, whoreportedly earned NT$20million. In third place is another model-actress, Bianca Bai,
who pocketed NT$15million.

Lin said that she is conservative when it comes to spending her money, “contrary to how it looks”. “It’s pretty simple. A big portion of my earnings goes to making life and my living standard better,” she said.

By that, she meant a good home, she said. She lives with her family.

She added: “Home is cosy and isn’t big or very grand. There are four bedrooms and it’s a nice place to gather everyone together.”

She said she doesn’t splurge on material goods “because you don’t actually need it”. It could also be because the endorsement queen receives many sponsored items through work.

Lin is a spokesman for beauty products, hair care products, clothes, watchesand shoes.

The only thing she “buys” for herself is vacations, though she has time for only a week-long holiday in a year.

As she is easily recognised in Asia, she flies to Europe for a getaway.

She added with a laugh that she also has a secret disguise that gets her around unnoticed. So does she stay in six-star hotels, get massages every day or go on crazy shopping sprees?

No, she replied, she’s not extreme like that.

“I find time to relax and to pamper myself. To read a book or drink a cup of coffee, that’s wonderful enough for me already.

“Normally, I have to set my alarm clock (to wake up in the morning). But during my holidays, I sleep in.”

She doesn’t necessarily stay only in luxury accommodation, and recalled how she had shacked up at 21/2-star boutique hotels.

Lin added that she will also spend a lot to make her family happy and their living standards better, and to fulfil others’ wishes.

She could be referring to her yearly calendars. According to the Chinese website Sina, she had spent NT$1 million to produce her 2011 calendar. She flew to Rome for the location shoot.

In the report, Lin said she has raised more than NT$4 million from the sales of the calendar, and the money will be donated to 27 charity organisations benefiting children,women,the sick and the elderly.

It has been a busy year for Taiwan's top model Lin Chi-ling as she pockets more than TWD$1 billion in earnings.

Ranking Taiwanese models according to their annual incomes, the country's top model Lin Chi-ling dominated the chart for the seventh time in a row. Her income for the year was estimated to be more than TWD$1.6 billion (approximately S$7 million).

Coming in second and third were Sonia Sui and Bianca Bai respectively. In fourth position was Patina Lin, followed by Tiffany Hsu in fifth.

Lin Chi-ling reportedly generated more than $1 billion from her endorsements of 12 different products, which cost more than $10 million each. On top of that, the model received a paycheck of more than $10 million for the production of Japanese drama series Moon Lovers. After the addition of income from appearing at events in the later half of the year, her win on the chart was expected.

On the other hand, Sonia Sui, who shot to fame with Taiwanese drama series P.S. Man, was reported to be earning an average amount of $150,000 per episode for the drama The Fierce Wife, which she is currently filming. She also received a $7 million paycheck for the movie Make Up. Additionally, Sonia generated $20 million from endorsements and other activities.

Coming in third, Bianca Bai, co-star of Sonia Sui in P.S. Man, also took on a movie role in Kingfisher, which paid her $4 million. She also earned an additional $15 million from endorsements and other activities.

She had faced cases of outstanding health insurance payments and poor ratings for her Japanese drama, Moon Lovers, starring opposite Takuya Kimura but was lucky to have gone through them safely. Even her case of owing tax payments received positive feedback from the Ministry of Finance.

Chi-ling's mother was worried about her daughter's heavy workload and wanted her to rest. "No matter how busy she is, she would help me with the cooking and housework when she returns home. I'm fortunate to have my daughter."

TWENTY days is definitely not too short a period to fall head over heels in love with someone and accept his hand in marriage.

At least, that scenario seemed totally plausible for Taiwanese model-actress Lin Chi-Ling, star of wuxia epic Red Cliff and the Indiana Jones-inspired actioner The Treasure Hunter.

The 35-year-old beauty was in town last Friday to grace the official opening of Swiss luxury watch brand Longines' swanky new boutique at Marina Bay Sands.

While on the topic of her good pal and fellow Taiwanese artiste Barbie Hsu's whirlwind engagement to wealthy restaurant heir Wang Xiaofei, Lin showed unequivocal support.

"I think she is a very courageous girl," Lin told The New Paper.

"When I learnt she was going to get married, I congratulated her and told her jokingly, 'Now, you're starting to give us (referring to herself and other single friends) a lot of pressure!'"

Last month, Hsu, 34, announced her engagement to 29-year-old Wang after meeting him just four times over 20 days.

The couple will throw wedding banquets in Taiwan and China's Hainan Island next March.

Lin reiterated her support for Hsu as she shared her personal philosophy on love.

"Falling in love should be an act of spontaneity...one should never be too rational," she said. "It's about holding on to that blissful moment when you know you've found the right person."

That said, Lin added that though she believes "it's possible to develop true feelings for a person in 20days", like any other relationship, "one has to work hard at it after marriage".

Making the first move

At this stage in her life, the bachelorette has no qualms "making the first move" in a courtship. "Three years ago, I wouldn't have dared to," Lin said with a chuckle.

"I was a lot more passive, the sort who clings to the belief that fate would one day come knocking on my door."

Today, she is a sassy, independent woman who would not hesitate to pursue the man of her dreams.

"If he happens to make my heart skip a beat, I'd strive hard to make that relationship work."

But Lin kept mum on her ex-beau, 33-year-old Taiwanese actor Jerry Yan.

According to Chinese news portal Sina.com, she broke down uncontrollably last month while on variety talk show Happy Camp in Hunan.

Its hosts had reportedly read out loud a love memoir penned by Yan, which brought back memories of their time shared together.

Lin's watchful minders took great pains to make sure nothing was asked about Yan during her interview with The New Paper.

They were equally aggressive in deflecting questions about her recent lacklustre performances on both big and small screens.

The Treasure Hunter, released last December and co-starring Mandopop superstar Jay Chou, failed to live up to the hype and bombed at the Asian box office.

Lin's debut Japanese drama series, Moon Lovers, which paired her with heart-throb Takuya Kimura and shown in Japan in May, was panned by critics.

But Lin did provide some insight into the way she chooses her projects.

"I tend to be very rational when it comes to work, it's quite different from the emotional side I display when it comes to love," she said.

"Familiarity is important to me at work; I'd take on films of directors and producers I know. "Also, I won't give up those rare opportunities that come by once in a lifetime."

TAIPEI, Nov 20 – Stars from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan are gathering on Saturday for this year’s Golden Horse Film Awards, the “Oscars” of Chinese-language cinema.

Chinese actress Xu Fan, Taiwan’s starlet Lin Chi-ling and heartthrob actor Ethan Juan are among the performers due to walk down the red carpet ahead of a gala ceremony in Taoyuan, northern Taiwan.

Hong Kong director Teddy Chen of “Bodyguards and Assassins” is also expected to join the film’s two leading men, Chinese veteran actor Wang Xueqi and Nicholas Tse of Hong Kong, at the ceremony, organisers said.

Chen’s martial arts flick, set in the waning days of the Qing dynasty in the early 20th century, is a top contender with nine nominations, including best picture, best director, and best leading actor for Wang.

His rivals for the top acting honour are fellow Chinese Ni Dahong (“Judge”) and Qin Hao (“Spring Fever”) as well as Juan, one of Taiwan’s most popular young actors acclaimed for his role in the gangster film “Monga”.

From Hong Kong, Golden Horse-winning actor Tony Leung Ka-fai and kung fu master Sammo Hung, who has two nods for best action choreography, will also lend their star power to the show.

The cream of Taiwanese cinema is represented by director Chang Tso-chi, whose family drama “When Love Comes” is vying in 14 categories covering best picture, best director, and the outstanding Taiwanese film of the year.

Chang is favoured by critics to win best director over Chen (“Bodyguards and Assassins”), Chung Mong-hong (“The Fourth Portrait”) and Liu Jie (“Judge”).

Also up for the best picture award are Chinese legal drama “Judge” and two Taiwanese independent films – “The Fourth Portrait” and “Seven Days in Heaven”.

China’s Xu Fan (“Aftershock”), Tang Wei (“Crossing Hennessy”) and Lu Liping (“City Monkey”) will battle each other as well as Taiwan’s Sylvia Chang (“Buddha Mountain”) for best leading actress.

Critics believe Xu has an upper hand for her intense and touching performance in the film about a devastating earthquake in 1976, although Tang, a Golden Horse best new performer winner in 2007, is still a threat.

Tang won the award for playing a spy who betrayed her country in Taiwanese director Ang Lee’s erotic thriller “Lust, Caution” but the same role reportedly angered mainland authorities and caused her to be blacklisted for two years.

More than 30 films are competing for the 47th edition of the Golden Horse Awards, which are styled after the US Academy Awards but are decided by a jury along the lines of the Cannes film festival. – AFP

Modeling, acting and singing, Lin Chi-ling has done it all. But now the 36-year-old model has plans to venture into directing as well.

The model-turn-actress who is currently single, is putting her heart and soul into her career with plans to work on at least four movies in 2011.

Chi-ling had directed the MV for her own single 'Mu Guang' last year. The Taiwanese beauty had also been hands-on with a 30-min short film project recently, from the storyline to editing.

Besides playing director, Chi-ling wants to dedicate 2011 to filming, hoping for at least four movies and getting breakthrough roles.

TAIPEI: Taiwan model-actress Lin Chiling has been ordered to pay NT$6.84 million (S$290,000) in taxes owed after losing a lawsuit brought against her by Taiwan tax authorities on Thursday, reported Taiwan media.

Taiwan tax authorities previously found that the supermodel, who makes about NT$70 million (S$2.9 million) annually, had paid NT$6.84 million less tax than she was supposed to between 2003 and 2005.

Lin had argued that her income should be seen as "Professional Practice Income" and that a portion of her costs can be deducted before tax is levied on the remainder.

However, taxation officers believed that her income should still be seen as "Earned Income", which meant Lin was entitled to a much more modest tax deduction.

The courts eventually ruled against Lin.

The tax authorities had initially wanted to fine Lin an additional NT$1.35 million (S$57,000) for tax evasion but the courts decided that the 35-year-old had not intentionally avoided paying her taxes and only ordered Lin pay the shortfall.

Lin was absent when the verdict was announced in court on Thursday though her mother had expressed that they would appeal the judgment.

In Patty Hou's case, perhaps she should have chosen a different dress: she wore a Vivienne Westwood low-cut dress which supermodel Lin Chiling had wore one year ago.

TAIPEI: Taiwan model-actress Lin Chiling appeared as a spokesperson for Chinese bathroom fixture company HCG, run by rumoured boyfriend, 'Toilet Bowl Prince' Qiu Shi Kai, during a press event in Shanghai on Saturday, reported Chinese media.

Lin's appearance at the event revived rumours that she was seeing Qiu, the son of a wealthy businessman.

When asked about this matter, Qiu, who was nicknamed the 'Toilet Bowl Prince' due to his wealthy background and involvement in the bathroom fixture business, told reporters: "What do you think?"

His cryptic reply only served to pique the public's curiosity about the couple's relationship, sparking renewed speculation that Qiu might well be Lin's secret beau.

When asked about Lin and Qiu's rumoured romantic relationship, Lin's other rumoured suitor, former F4 member Jerry Yan, gave them his blessing.

Li's treasure-hunting comedy Welcome to Shama Town opened on June 22, Li making the "next stage" step from directing commercials to entering the world of feature films.

He said that after shooting commercials for 10 years, he has lost the initial excitement and sense of achievement in the job that originally attracted him after graduating from Beijing Film Academy in 2000.

"Shooting a commercial is plainly to deliver the client's message and concept, with a process that is too familiar and unexciting for me," he said.

The thought of moving on to feature films came to Li in 2003, when he suspended his advertising work and stayed at home due to SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). He then began to look for a new direction in life. The desire to shoot a feature film with his own signature started to emerge.

However, Li's idea was not put into practice until three years later, when he started paying more attention to films and the film industry as a whole, while preparing the script. His feature directorial debut, Welcome to Shama Town, is a result of five years of preparation and hard working, although filming only took two months.

Li said that shooting was amazing, with excitement and freshness filling the whole process.

"I haven't felt so high since shooting my commercial debut," he said.

Although new to the genre, Li said that when it comes to practical shooting, there is not too much difference between directing a feature and a commercial.

"My previous 10 years as a commercial director has provided me with abundant experience to deal with various incidents during shooting, to put shooting plans into practice and reach desired effects within a limited budget."

According to Li, his experience in advertising has broadened his vision to the latest shooting techniques, new ideas and concepts. As Welcome to Shama Town is his first feature and also a comedy, Li said he held back on experimenting too much. "I hope more revolutionary shooting techniques and methods can be adopted in my next feature film, which will be of a different film genre."

Li said he had to make several adjustments when changing formats from a 30-second advertisement to a 90-minute film. He said that in a commercial demands a climax within a very limited time, while a feature requires an opening, development, transition and conclusion.

"In this sense, commercial and feature films are two completely different things that require different mindsets," he said, adding that he had to forget his identity as a commercial director completely when shooting the film.

Starring Sun Honglei and Lin Chiling, Welcome to Shama Town is now awaiting the judgment of millions of cinemagoers, which Li said is another major difference between features and commercials.

"Back in the days as a commercial director, I only had to deal with the response of my client, while now I have to face audiences from the whole country." He said he expects people's reactions to be mixed, but hopes the film will be "accepted and loved by the majority."

For Li, directing has never simply been a way to make a living. "Film and commercials, with their similarities and differences, are a part of my life," he said with a grin.

TAIPEI : Taiwan model-actress Lin Chiling expressed her disappointment over the dismal ratings of her Japanese drama serial "Moonlight Lovers" and revealed that she hopes to take some acting classes next year, reported Chinese media.

Speaking to reporters while attending the high-profile Royal Ascot horse races in the UK, Lin was evasive and said, "Could we not talk about the ratings (of "Moonlight Lovers")? Frankly, I am a little depressed at the moment."

"I want to take this chance to take in as much air as I can. This can be considered a short break!" Lin added.

"Moonlight Lovers", which also stars Japanese superstar Takuya Kimura, tanked in Japan, managing only 13.4 per cent in ratings. Its average ratings also lost out to other J-dramas this season.

The drama's producer, Fuji Television, was reportedly so disappointed that it intends to cut short the show's run to eight episodes instead of the usual ten for a drama in the 9pm time slot, with its finale scheduled to air on July 5 in Japan.

Many netizens had blamed the drama's poor ratings on a bad script and Lin's acting. Despite this setback, Lin said she "will improve in the areas I am weak in and satisfy everyone".

The 35-year-old went on to reveal that she hopes to make time for acting classes at the beginning of next year.

TOKYO: Taiwan model-actress Lin Chiling's maiden Japanese drama serial "Moon Lovers" suffered from dismal ratings in Japan and may face cancellation, reported Taiwan media.

The first episode of Fuji Television's highly anticipated romance drama "Moon Lovers", which also stars Japanese heartthrob Takuya Kimura, garnered ratings of 22.4 per cent when broadcast in May at the 9pm time slot on Mondays.

However, ratings dropped steadily until it hit a low of 15.5 per cent during the serial's fourth episode, a record low for a drama starring the ultra-popular Kimura.

Kimura's earlier drama "Hero" holds the record for being the highest rated drama serial in the same time slot with ratings of 34.2 per cent.

The Japanese actor is so popular in Japan that any drama he appears in was virtually guaranteed good ratings; however, it appears this was not the case for "Moon Lovers".

And by the end of the drama's fifth episode, trailers of the subsequent episodes were spotted being labelled as "previews of the final episode", a label that usually indicates a drama will end within the next two or three episodes.

This sparked rumours that Fuji Teleivion has decided to pull the plug and conclude the drama early, in seven or eight episodes instead of the usual ten or 12 for drama serials to free up the time slot.

If "Moon Lovers" does suffer this fate, it would be the shortest-lived drama aired during that time slot in the past two decades.

Citing the stellar ratings of Kimura's earlier dramas, many netizens blamed the drama's poor ratings on a bad script and Lin's acting.

Other than her stint in John Woo's "Red Cliff" films, Lin's forays into acting have been largely unsuccessful, with "Treasure Hunter" being panned by the critics and now "Moon Lovers" facing possible cancellation.

While many may question Lin's acting chops, few would dispute the fact that she has exquisite looks.

The Japanese media praised Lin, 35, for looking much younger than her actual age when she appeared at events in Japan to promote "Moon Lovers".

In addition, men's magazine FHM Taiwan recently named Lin the sexiest woman in the world for the fourth year running, with American singer Lady Gaga in second place, followed by Taiwan pop princess Jolin Tsai in third.

Taipei, April 14 (CNA) A public campaign endorsed by Taiwan government officials will be launched with the screening of a television program to raise awareness of ocean preservation, organizers said Wednesday.

The "Happy Ocean Campaign" aims to draw public attention to the deteriorating ocean environment and pollution in Taiwan ahead of the 40th anniversary of World Earth Day on April 22, the National Geographic Channel announced.

Premier Wu Den-yih underlined the importance of ocean preservation in Taiwan, which he called an "ocean country, " at a press conference to promote National Geographic's program on the beauty of oceans surrounding Taiwan, scheduled to air on cable television in Taiwan from April 19-30.

As an ocean country with the sixth-largest offshore fishing industry in the world, Wu said, Taiwan and its people need to understand more about the ocean and cherish its valuable resources. A Maritime Affairs Council will be included in the government structure reform and will start operation Jan. 1, 2013, he said.

More details about Takuya Kimura's upcoming drama series were revealed on Tuesday. Titled "Tsuki no Koibito ~Moon Lovers~," the drama will air in Fuji TV's Monday 9:00pm time slot this spring, though the starting broadcast date has not yet been determined.

As reported earlier this month, the drama has Kimura (37) playing the president of an interior design company. It is described as his first real romance series since "Beautiful Life" in 2000, but he will have not one, but three female co-stars.

Leading the list of actresses is Ryoko Shinohara (36), cast as a capable interior designer who works with Kimura. The complicated relationship between the two characters goes back to their days as students together. Kimura and Shinohara previously acted together in the 1997 series "Gift."

Lin Chi-ling to star as Takuya Kimura's lover in Japanese drama series

Leggy model-actress Lin Chi-ling will be making her first foray in the Japanese entertainment industry in a drama series starring Takuya Kimura.

The 35-year-old grew famous in Japan after her debut acting stint in the history epic film, Red Cliff. She was also recently invited to star as the lead actress in a music video for popular Japanese boyband, SMAP.

According to the Japanese media, the upcoming drama series will be produced by Fuji TV and Lin will take on the role as a model engaged to shoot a series of advertisements for Kimura's design company. Feelings will start to develop between the pair's characters over time.

Fuji TV reportedly had a hard time trying to pick their lead actress as Kimura tends to nitpick on his drama's scripts, fellow co-actors, and sponsors. They originally wanted to work with Kimura's previous onscreen partners, Ayase Haruka and Kuroki Meisa, but decided against it due to a "lack in freshness."

The network then sought after 25-year-old Aoi Miyazaki from the hit Taiga drama series, Atsu-hime, but was turned down by the actress who explained, "We share an age-gap. It won't be convincing to act as lovers, right?"

Filming for this series was originally slated to start in mid-February but was stalled due to the hiccups over its lead actress. It will be pushed back and will air in May instead.

SHE has been only in two films so far, but model-turned actress Lin Chi-ling is making acting her full-time career.

"I will go full-time acting, definitely. This is the path that I'm going to go on for the long term. As for modelling, I can do it part-time," she told The Daily Chilli recently when she was here to promote her latest film The Treasure Hunter.

The pretty lass is especially interested in tackling roles that are based on real life stories and figures.

"It does not have to be someone famous. I don't mind playing a plain Jane as long as the film comes with depth," she said.

She was equally fascinated by the idea of playing a scheming girl.

"I want to play someone that is so cunning and evil but you can't tell until the last 10 minutes of the film."

It certainly seems that she's ready to embrace the challenges that come with being an actress.

"I don't mind playing someone old or ugly. That's how a true actor should be. I think audiences would love to see different sides of me. So the more different the role is from my usual image, the more I want to challenge myself. Acting enables you to shed your baggage. You are not playing yourself and it makes you excited," she said.

The 35-year-old recently completed shooting comedy The Battle in Sha Ma Town.

"It's a role that you can never imagine," said Lin.

Shot in China, it also stars Sun Honglei and is slated to be released next year.

Taiwan top model cum female artiste, Lin Chi-ling, frankly revealed that despite being on guard against men, she is worried about not being loved.

Jay Chou and Lin Chi-ling, together with director Kevin Chu, arrived in Singapore two days ago to promote their latest movie The Treasure Hunter. They attended a press conference in the afternoon, a fans meeting held at Plaza Singapura in the evening, followed by the Christmas premiere of The Treasure Hunter at GV Vivocity.

The Treasure Hunter is another major production starring Chi-ling following Red Cliff 1 & 2. In The Treasure Hunter, her role is a writer who is on bad terms with her father (acted by Kenneth Tsang), and also having a love-hate relationship with Jay Chou.
In the movie, there is a scene where Jay and Chi-ling are both drunk, and after much persuasion by the director, Chi-ling who doesn't drink, drank a bit, and she became more open.

Chi-ling with her gentle tone said in an exclusive interview with us, "I am not a good drinker. When I drink, I will turn red, and when I'm drunk, I will be laughing non-stop."

With regards to Jay revealing that Chi-ling is on guard against men, Chi-ling admitted, "It's only towards men! I have no idea why, but it seemed like this segment (of getting along with men) is missing from my growing up process."

She further explained, "(As) I've known Jay for very long, it is easier to build rapport. Actually, it is not much of being on guard against men, but because I warm up at a slower pace, I don't really know how to get along with men."

When asked if Chi-ling has the desire to get into a relationship after almost falling in love in the movie, Chi-ling answered smiling, "Even if I didn't participate in this movie, I will also have (the desire to get into a relationship)!"

When probed if she had found someone who can protect her, Chi-ling exclaimed that she's also anxious about this it!

She said, "It's more of a loving and giving feeling than hoping for someone to protect me."
With regards to the constant rumour about her marriage with Taiwanese businessman, Qiu Shi-kai, Chi-ling gave an interesting reply, "I no longer read these reports and I don't go after media reports. I only read them once in a few months to keep myself updated."

As for her resolutions for 2010, Chi-ling mentioned that she hopes to participate in a couple more movies, and also expressed her interest in trying out scheming roles! Despite having presented her debut singing for The Treasure Hunter's theme song, of which she wrote the lyrics and Jay composed the music, Chi-ling mentioned that she does not have vain hopes about releasing an album.

Thinking back about the first time she enters the recording room, she said, "I seemed to have lost my voice and nothing seems to be coming out!"

Furthermore, Chi-ling hopes to have more time for herself in the coming year and to live life her way.

"I would love to spend more time at home or to travel around to places without much attention being given, and to move around freely."

The Treasure Hunter will be screening in local cinemas starting from 31st December 2009.

The Taipei City Government yesterday opened the first exhibition pavilion that will be used in the Taipei International Flora Expo on Zhongshan N Road as the city began the 365-day countdown to the event.

The Butterfly Pavilion, one of 14 that have been constructed or renovated around the city for the expo, resembles a butterfly pupa and will be used as a performance center after the expo next year.

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) joined local supermodel Lin Chiling (林志玲) and 365 students in celebrating the completion of the pavilion, which he said was expected to boost the city’s international reputation.

“We are hoping that the expo will introduce Taipei to the world and let the world see Taipei is the same way the Deaflympics did,” he said.

Lin, dressed in clothes decorated with flowers, accepted an invitation to serve as one of the expo’s promotion ambassadors. She said she would use every chance she gets to promote the event.

The expo will be held from Nov. 6 next year until April 25, 2011, at several locations around Taipei City. At least five exhibition pavilions will be established around Yuanshan Park and Xinsheng Park in the city’s Datong District (大同).

Hau said the expo would also boost the development of the district with the construction of pavilions and urban projects.

Lin, whose long list of celebrity customers includes Mandopop singer Jolin Tsai, Taiwanese supermodel Chi-Ling Lin and former Taiwanese vice-president Annette Lu, will present a collection of evening and wedding wear at Telus Taiwanfest 2009 on Saturday.

The collection is inspired by traditional Chinese and Taiwanese opera, Lin said in an interview. Expect to see long sleeves, embroidery, beading and hand-painted flowers and landscapes, said Lin, who once designed costumes for opera.

Although fall might seem a strange season to show wedding wear, Lin said it makes perfect sense to many Asian consumers.

"In the lunar calendar, July is the month of ghosts and people don’t want to get married then," he said. "They avoid celebrations and don’t go near water or fire. But many people want to get married before lunar New Year [in February] because everybody thinks this will help them have a good year, so they are planning now."

Lin was a poor fit for his conservative, rural childhood and he survived just two years as a mechanical engineer in a car parts factory before his passion for flamboyant, head-turning fashion became impossible to suppress.

He began studying fashion design in the U.K.’s Birmingham Institute of Art and Design at the age of 32. He then paid his dues designing for the department store market — "For me that was really boring," Lin said — before making the headlong leap into haute couture.

Today he is known for his three-dimensional, structural approach to design and his love for bold, bright colours.

Goji Lin’s designs are available in his signature boutique in Taipei, and in exclusive boutiques throughout Taiwan. The Taiwanfest fashion show is the Asian celebrity designer’s first foray into the North American market.

TAIPEI : Taiwanese supermodel Lin Chiling has become the "star" of a Japanese pornographic disc after her image was used on the cover.

Inside, there's also a montage of topless pictures of Lin.

According to chinanews.com, the disc entitled “China Enticement” was discovered in the Chinese province of Guangxi. The cover featured Lin in a half-bared shoulder shot posing sexily with legs propped on a table while sitting beside an antique fan.

This is not the first picture scandal to plague Lin. Due to her popularity, her photos have often been used for other illicit purposes.

Five years ago, nude pictures of her surfaced online, and the year before saw her image being used as a massage girl in Britain.

At a movie premiere in Taiwan on Wednesday, Lin refused to speak on the latest incident. Her manager expressed that they did not want to promote the disc by commenting on it and will seek the law to take those responsible to task.

Lin Chiling sues magazine for trespassing and slander

TAIPEI: Taiwanese supermodel Lin Chiling on Monday appeared in a Taipei court to sue "Next Magazine" for trespassing on private property, slander, as well as threatening her privacy.

The weekly tabloid allegedly broke into Lin's Taipei house in May 2006 while doing a story on the star's love triangle between actor Jerry Yen and Qiu Shi Kai - son of a rich businessman.

The magazine then hired a fengshui master to analyse the house's interior design and furniture arrangement, thereafter publishing articles claiming Lin has intentions of marrying a rich man in the shortest time possible.

Accompanied by her brother Lin Chihong and two attorneys, the "Red Cliff" actress emphasised in court that a home is where one should feel the most secured. She said that after the trespassing, her privacy was threatened and she felt a loss in sense of security.

After "Next Magazine" published pictures of the interior of her newly purchased house, Lin said she had to hire private investigators to inspect the house as she was worried spy cameras may have been planted on her premises.

Lawyers representing "Next Magazine" argued that Lin's fears were unfounded and subjective, and insisted the pictures were obtained from a sister magazine in Hong Kong.

"Next Magazine" claimed its reporters had never set foot into Lin's estate, and that Lin has never seen its reporters.

The magazine maintained it was being falsely accused.

The court session was jam-packed with hordes of court staff and members of the public hoping to witness Lin's hearing.

Those unable to get into the court room crowded outside, hoping to catch a glimpse of the supermodel.

By the end of the session, police had to be called in to maintain order, and usher Lin out.

The hearing will continue on August 31.
