Movie: Taichung to host 45th Golden Horse Film Awards

Movie: Taichung to host 45th Golden Horse Film Awards Agency Taichung will host the 2008 (45th) Golden Horse Film Awards Ceremony. A film festival related to the awards will be held in November. Previously, the city held the 41st Golden Horse Film Awards on December 4, 2004. "Taichung is the birthplace of Taiwan cinema," said Mayor Jason Hu at an August 24 press conference held to unveil the upcoming movie festival. "We are hoping to become a movie-friendly city by hosting this movie festival." The film industry is a valuable piece of Taiwan's culture heritage; the central and city governments should fund initiatives that encourage young people to enter the business, said the mayor. Hu also signed a contract with Liao Jr-de, president of the Motion Picture Development Foundation ROC, to officially take responsibility to host the movie festival. Pace Wu to replace Lin Chiling as Gala's co-host

Pace Wu Pei-Ci, a Taiwanese actress and model, will replace supermodel Lin Chiling as co-host of this year's Mid-Autumn Festival Gala produced by Beijing-based China Central Television (CCTV). A report in the Beijing News said Lin could not co-host the show because of her busy schedule and that Wu's agency confirmed that she would replace Lin. CCTV has not confirmed the news. Guo Jihong, the gala's director, said at a press conference in late August that CCTV selected Lin as co-host, mainly because of her eye-catching performance in the latest film blockbuster "Red Cliff," which has posted record box-office earnings. This is not the first time that Lin has had to bow out of the gala. In early 2006, she was picked as a potential co-host for the state television broadcaster's gala in the coastal city of Xiamen. But she had to decline for the same reason. (CRI September 8, 2008)
