Too busy for Red Cliff

Too busy for Red Cliff It wasn't for love or money. Tony Leung Chiu Wai pulled out of director John Woo’s Chinese epic Red Cliff not because he had problems with the pay or that he wanted to spend more time with girlfriend Carina Lau. Tony Leung at the Asian Film Awards in Hong Kong recently. He just felt he had no time to prepare for the role of master strategist Zhuge Liang, Leung said at the Asian Film Awards recently. He had wrapped up spy thriller Lust, Caution and crime drama Confession of Pain back to back, when he found that with Red Cliff being split into two instalments, he would have more lines to learn – in Mandarin. Does he think his last-minute replacement, Takeshi Kaneshiro, will have time to do his homework for the shoot that starts in Beijing late this month? “I believe Takeshi Kaneshiro’s Mandarin is better than mine. In this aspect, it is easier for him,” Leung said of the Taiwan-born actor. Red Cliff, also starring Chow Yun Fatt and Chiling Lin, will be released
