Stars bring 'Red Cliff Part 2' to Tokyo

Saturday 07th February, 05:00 AM JST TOKYO — Actor Takeshi Kaneshiro, 35, Chinese director John Woo, 62, and Taiwanese actress Lin Chiling, 34, were in Tokyo this week for the gala promotion of “Red Cliff Part 2.” Chinese singer A Lan, who sings the movie’s theme song, also attended. Kaneshiro said, “It took four years to create the film from its planning stage. I think we are all happy to see so many people embrace the film.” Chiling said in Japanese, “I appreciate Japanese fans’ support. Thank you very much.” Director Woo said part two of the epic features elements based on late Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai.” He said the success of the first “Red Cliff” proves that Asian films can compete with Hollywood films. 'Red Cliff' Sequel Premieres CRIENGLISH.com Editor: Xie Tingting The fervor over the war epic "Red Cliff" is building to a crescendo with director John Woo set to present a sequel to the most bankable Chinese film in history. Woo on Sunday led cast members of "Red Cliff II" at its premiere in Beijing. The sequel will open in theaters on Wednesday, roughly five months after the previous film bagged over 300 million yuan (US$43.97 million) to set a new record for Chinese-language films. A survey conducted earlier by Sina.com.cn shows that 93 percent of the respondents expected the sequel. John Woo shot the two films as a whole with a hefty investment of US$80 million. However, he decided to release the production in two segments, saying that by doing so it allows enough space for character development. Ku6.com Sued For Infringing Chinese Movie's Copyright

August 25, 2008 Online video website Ku6.com has been sued by the film marketing and planning branch of China Film Group Corporation for copyright infringement of its film "Red Cliff" and the case has been accepted by Haidian People's Court, Beijing. According to news from 163.com, the plaintiff, China Film Group Corporation, is the copyright owner of "Red Cliff" in mainland China. However, Ku6.com offered the film through its website without the approval of China Film Group Corporation. This behavior has constituted a copyright infringement. In addition, the infringement behavior happened during the film's premier, which the plaintiff says brought great economic loss to the company. Therefore, to protect its own legitimate rights, the plaintiff decided to bring a lawsuit against Ku6.com. The plaintiff requires Ku6.com to immediately stop the infringement, pay compensation of CNY550,000. and pay the legal fees of CNY50,000. So far, the case is still being he...
