Taipei, April 26 (CNA) Taiwan's top model, Lin Chiling, will serve as the spokeswoman for a program of World Vision Taiwan that cares for orphans left by deceased AIDS parents, officials of the charity organization said Wednesday.

Lin will travel with a delegation organized by the organization to Swaziland, which has the highest AIDS infection rate in Africa, from May 7-13, they said.

Lin said that since a horse-riding accident in China last year, she had reflected upon her life during her months of convalescence and decided to serve as a World Vision volunteer. She expressed hope that her visit to Swaziland will be her first lesson of a richer life.

Lin said she also met a Watoto children's chorus from Uganda recently to "further her understanding" of Africa.

The officials said that World Vision launched the HIV/AIDS HOPE Initiative to take care of children orphaned by AIDS parents, as well as AIDS-affected families.

The initiative, which stands for H-help, O-orphan, P-prevent, and E-educate, will also work on preventing AIDS infections and on educating the public on AIDS awareness, they added.

The program will operate in countries with high AIDS infection rates such as South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, Malawi, Ethiopia, India, China and Laos.

They urged the public to contribute to the program through the Web site i-payment.worldvision.org.tw. Related information can also be obtained by calling 02-2585-6300 or from www.worldvision.org.tw.
