At the film opening ceremony, only one main character showed up with 13 others who are not very well known. The first scene was about Cao Cao and he was all wrapped up except his head gear. 50 extras were given guidelines as to how to bow and greet officials.
John Woo said that it has been his dream for the last 16 years to make this movie.
It was rumored before that the role of Cao Cao was a breaktrhough and Cao Cao for once is not sly but a just minded hero with a world view.
Zhang Jia Zhun denied this rumor and said that no matter which country the cast come from, John Woo would make them multi dimensional and not just on Cao Cao.
"As to whether Cao Cao is a breakthrough, actually there is not a simple good or bad judgement. This is like most of John Woo's previous movies, the characters are not one dimensional. There bound to be overlap of good and bad in the character. Besides it is a period movie, and there would be fighting and killing. There won't be much detail moralizing/depiction in it."

The press speculated that most of the focus for secret press photographs would be on Lin Zhi Ling because it's her first time on the big screen.

The reporter accept the choice of Takeshi as Zhu Ge Liang even though he looks a bit foreign like a pretty boy. But accordingly, the young Zhu Ge Liang was supposed to be a bright and intellignet pretty boy too.
