Lin Chi-ling's 'baby voice' a hoax?

Whiny to some, pleasant to others, such are the bipolar views audience have of Taiwanese top model Lin Chi-ling's voice. Netizens recently dug out an interview clip of Lin before she was famous and found her voice to be hoarse and totally different from her trademark 'baby voice'.

One cynic wrote in an online post after watching the clip: "She is truly putting on an act! I've never believed in that baby voice of hers. This is one vicious woman." Some also believed that her baby voice was initiated by her management company to create hype.

Her supporters, on the other hand, questioned the authenticity of the video clip, and believed it was manipulated digitally. They pointed out that the voice of the host in the interview, Stella Chang, known for her crystal clear vocals, also sounds hoarser in the clip.

Appearing in a teal dress at the Beijing Olympics Stadium on Monday night as the "Asian Games Angel" of the 16th Asian Games Etiquette Volunteer Selection Contest, Lin shared her views on etiquette.

"If I were to coach the group of Asian Games etiquette volunteers," she said, "I would start with the basic sitting and standing posture, then advance to social communication skills, reminding them to be polite and soft at all times."

Always demure and soft-spoken, the model also advised the volunteers to focus on their ethos; appearances are secondary.

"Offer help at all times. This is the true etiquette of Chinese tradition which we want to show the rest of the world," she said.
