Lin Chi-ling on Takuya Kimura: Handsome but not for me
After her big breakthrough in the historical epic movie, Red Cliff, directed by John Woo, Lin Chi-ling will be starring opposite famed Japanese actors Takuya Kimura and Keiko Kitagawa in an upcoming Japanese drama series, Moon Lovers.
In an interview with the Taiwanese press, the 36-year-old who appeared in the pink of health despite long working hours, said, "I've not really been out and about in Japan. Even eating a simple hot bento meal feels very fulfilling."
According to reports, the leggy beauty pockets an estimated 2.5million Yen (S$370,000) for each episode. Both Chi-ling and Takuya will play a pair of onscreen lovers in this Fuji TV series.
For Moon Lovers, Lin takes on the role of an impoverished girl who is adept in fighting and kicks up a fuss while crying. Speaking on her role's many crying scenes, Chi-ling said, "Will it scare people? The first episode was rather tough but I don't care. I don't think I'm a country bumpkin, neither am I ugly."
Apart from her overworked tear ducts, the actress also had to fall down for as many as 50 times in this show and laughingly commented that she earned the nickname "falling beauty".
She confessed that her voice tends to resemble that of "a small child" and has to "change and improve" on it. However her attempts to suppress and lower her voice tone in her debut Japanese project were unnecessary as the director and actors expressed preference for her lovable wawa (childlike) voice.
Reporters asked if the 1.74m tall Chi-ling towered over her male colleagues.
"He's [Takuya Kimura] very tall. All of us wore flats but he is still 2-3cm taller than me," she hurriedly clarified.
When asked to compare the height of Takuya and Jay Chou, Chi-ling laughed, "Aren't you putting me in a spot?"
When reporters spotted a magazine with her Japanese co-star featured on the frontpage lying in her room they asked if she was attracted to him.
"He is a really handsome guy! But that's impossible!"
