Lin Chiling denies claims that she will marry this year

TAIPEI: Taiwan supermodel Lin Chiling has denied that she will wed this year, despite her mother's claims that there would be wedding bells before the year is out, reported Taiwan media.

"Mum says it will be 'this year' every year. Give me some more time," said Lin during a charity luncheon with tennis legend Andre Agassi in Taipei.

"I am trying very hard to let love happen."

When asked if she would stop her mother from speaking further about her love life, Lin said she could not.

"I don't have the right. Her intentions are good but from now on, just ask me if there are any [queries]. Ask me, ask me," said Lin, who was swarmed by reporters after the event.

The 36-year-old also took the opportunity to sooth tensions between her ex-lover Jerry Yan's fans and her mother.

Lin's mother had previously criticised Yan for speaking fondly about Lin when he appeared on a Chinese variety show, chiding him for "getting in the way of other people's marriage".

Lin's mother had often expressed that she hoped Lin would marry Taiwan's 'Toilet Bowl Prince' Scott Qiu and appeared to feel Yan's actions would harm any chances of that happening.

Yan's fans were upset by her remarks, with some even vowing to boycott the brand of soy sauce which Lin's mother is a spokesperson for.

"I feel people often have good intentions when they speak. People probably shouldn't let some minor communication errors cause misunderstandings," said the "Red Cliff" actress.

"Both I and my mother are fans of Yan and would not hurt other people."

Just who will she marry?

Perhaps due to the sensitive subject matter, Lin, who appeared warm and jovial throughout the event, teared up when she sat down to take further questions from the gathered press, though she soon regained her composure.

If she had to choose, who did she prefer - Yan, whom she is still close with, or Qiu, whom her mother likes?

Lin deftly sidestepped the question.

"I care about all my friends."

Did she feel uncomfortable that people spoke as though her only choices were Yan and Qiu?

"What am I to do?" Lin blurted. "I wish I could break out [of this bracket]."
